shoreline advisor program

Shoreline Advisors Rob Davis and Catharine Hoare chat with a cottager on Soyers Lake

Testimonial

Here's what one cottager had to say about their experience with the program:

"To date, we have let more than half of our shoreline (about 60 feet) go back to its natural state merely by stopping cutting the lawn.  Initially, we roped off an area about 15 feet deep, but we have already increased that amount to about 20 feet.  The wildflowers were awesome!  Next spring I plan to plant four to six shrubs and bushes from the list that is in the info package into that area.  Sue (Shoreline Advisor) was wonderfully helpful in identifying species that she thought would fit our needs."

About the Program

The Alliance is supporting its partners in shoreline stewardship and freshwater conservation by providing a one-on-one site visit program to lake associations interested in raising awareness amongst individual property owners about shared concerns for the ecosystem health of their lake.

How It Works

At the invitation of the owner, a qualified Shoreline Advisor is lead on a tour of the property providing advice and guidance pertaining to:

It is up to the discretion of the property owner as to what aspects of their site is addressed by the Advisor. At the end of the visit the Advisor provides a list of recommendations, a resource kit containing information on topics covered during the visit, and a list of local service providers to help them take action.

Participation in the program is free, voluntary, strictly confidential and non-regulatory (we do not report to any level of government).
